Small bikes are an ideal way to start riding, and are especially good for first bikes. These little bikes are great fun and you only have to have a CBt to ride them on the road. As well as that there are loads and loads of 125cc motorbikes for sale. In turn, this means that they are very popular with a certain age group of younger riders. There is now a really wide range of bike for this mraket, from very modern right through to retro models. Below are a few of my favourites and some new ones on the market.
- Suzuki RV125 Van Van. I love the retro style of this one, and it takes me back to my teen years. The original model was first launched in the mid 70’s, and this modern recreation has some great features that the original had. As with the old ones, they are still underpowered, but the balloon tyres and chrome clocks make it really feel classic. Still, it has big bars, a comfy seat and makes a great little cruiser.
- Cagiva Raptor 125. This is essentially a paired down version of the Cagiva Mito, and used to be called the Planet 125. It has some lovely features like big Brembo brakes with massive stopping power, a chrome petrol tank to look at yourself in and the looks of an old Ducatti monster. If I ever sell my motorbike, I may have to look at getting one of these.
- Derbi GPR125. If want to go for something sporty, the Derbi is definitely the one for you. With supersport styled faring, it really looks amazing. With custom front and rear suspension by Derbi and claims of 33bhp, this bike was made for carving around the streets.
- Yamaha XT125R. Along with the van van, this is another model that has been around for donkeys years. The low weight and wide bars give it a supermoto feel and ease of riding, that when combined with the smooth 4-stroke is a winner. It comes with a high bash plate and the option of off road tyres, meaning that it can also be used for some off road riding.
- Yamaha YZF-R125. It looks like an R6, and has a four stroke engine capable of 80mph+. Not bad for the baby of the range. It’s a great choice for older riders starting out, because it’s quite a large bike, but a very good all rounder. The only problem is that they are expensive when new, so another good option is to look at we buy any bike or second hand bike shops like that.
